The Gargano National Park begins nearby and covers much of the surrounding promontory. Rignano Garganico is known as a balcony over the Tavoliere because of its position on the edge of the uplands. San Giovanni Rotondo is the nearest larger town and has full services and the Padre Pio pilgrimage complex. The area is part of the inland Gargano landscape of limestone hills, oak woodland and cereal land rather than the coastal cliff belt.
