Much of the surrounding area falls within Gargano National Park. San Giovanni Rotondo is a sizeable town with full daily services, and it is known nationally as the pilgrimage centre linked to Padre Pio. Monte Sant’Angelo is nearby and its Sanctuary of Saint Michael is part of the UNESCO serial site Longobards in Italy.
