Lesina sits on the shore of Lago di Lesina, a long coastal lagoon separated from the Adriatic by a narrow strip of dunes and pine woodland. It is inside the Gargano National Park. The Adriatic coast is at Marina di Lesina, with long sandy beaches and wetlands along this stretch. The Fortore plain lies inland, while the Gargano promontory rises to the east within the 15 km radius only at its western edge. Foggia is the nearest provincial city of size, with the main rail connections and services, but it is well beyond the immediate landscape. The area is known for lagoon fishing and eel.
