The first ridges of the Romagna Apennines begin around Meldola, with wooded hills and cultivated valleys rather than high mountain terrain. The Bidente river runs through the area. The Foreste Casentinesi, Monte Falterona e Campigna National Park begins farther up the Bidente valleys toward Santa Sofia and Campigna, outside the immediate surroundings. Forlì is the nearest larger town and provides the main services, rail connections and a small airport. The area is known in general for Romagna hill farming, orchards and access routes from the plain into the Apennine valleys.
