The cluster is in the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, in the upper Montone valley. The Montone River runs through the area. The Foreste Casentinesi, Monte Falterona e Campigna National Park lies nearby to the southwest, with extensive beech and fir forest on the ridge between Romagna and Tuscany. The nearest ski area is Campigna on the park side, reached by a mountain drive of roughly 30–40 minutes. The nearest town of some size is Forlì, which has the main services, rail connections, and a small airport; on the Tuscan side, Florence is farther but still the main big-city reference. The area is known for wooded Apennine valleys, chestnuts, and the old road connections between Romagna and Florence.
