The cluster is in the northern Apennines, in the upper Savio valley between the Casentino and Alpe di Serra massifs. The Savio river runs through the area. Much of the surrounding landscape falls inside the Parco Nazionale delle Foreste Casentinesi, Monte Falterona e Campigna, with extensive beech and mixed forests on the ridges around the valley. The nearest ski area is Monte Fumaiolo, with small lifts around Campigna and the Fumaiolo side generally reached in about 30–45 minutes depending on the exact hamlet. Bagno di Romagna is the main local centre, with a historic core and thermal baths. The area is known for forest landscapes, mountain walking and the sources of the Tiber on Monte Fumaiolo a little to the south.
