The cluster is in the eastern Ciociaria hills at the edge of the central Apennines. The Monti Ernici rise immediately around Pescosolido, with the higher group of Monte del Passeggio and Monte Cornacchia close by. The upper Liri valley is the main valley landscape in this part of the province. The Parco Nazionale d'Abruzzo, Lazio e Molise begins a short distance to the east, and the Forca d'Acero pass is one of the usual access points from this side. The nearest town of size is Sora, which has a substantial built-up centre, services and rail connections, and Isola del Liri is nearby with its well-known waterfall in the town centre. This area is known for mountain villages, chestnut and olive country on the lower slopes, and access from Lazio into the Abruzzo national-park mountains.
