Location score 74/100The area lies on the Valdichiana side of Cortona, with the hills of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines and Mount Amiata only as distant horizons rather than part of the immediate landscape. Lake Trasimeno is just over the Umbrian border and within about 15 km from the southern side of the comune, with its low shoreline, reed beds and islands forming part of the local setting. The Valdichiana plain is the other main landscape feature, with irrigated fields and straight drainage channels below the hill settlements. Cortona is the nearest substantial town and has a large preserved historic centre on a hillside, with Etruscan walls, major churches and museums. Cortona is known for its Etruscan remains and for the olive-growing and vineyard landscape on the slopes above the plain.
