The nearest substantial town is Montevarchi in the Valdarno, with rail links, shops and services; Arezzo is the main provincial city farther southeast. The area is known for olive groves, terraced hillsides, stone villages and the Balze landforms that also appear in the Valdarno around Castelfranco di Sopra and Piantravigne.
