The Tiber is the main river of the area. The Monti Rognosi nature reserve lies close to Anghiari, with badlands, serpentinite outcrops and Mediterranean-type scrub unusual for inland Tuscany. The Casentino Forests National Park is farther away and does not define the immediate 15 km surroundings. Anghiari itself is a preserved hill town with intact walls and a steep medieval centre.
