Lake Trasimeno is just beyond the Tuscan border and within about 15 km of the southern side of the area. Cortona is the nearest larger historic town, with a substantial walled centre on a hill above the valley, and Arezzo and Montepulciano are the main towns in wider daily reach for services and rail connections.
