The northern edge of the area meets the Tuscan-Romagnolo Apennines, and the Foreste Casentinesi, Monte Falterona e Campigna National Park is within this wider mountain belt to the west-southwest. Anghiari itself is a walled hill town with a preserved historic centre, and Sansepolcro is the nearest larger town with full services and museums. The area is known for the Battle of Anghiari and for tobacco and olive growing in the Valtiberina.
