The Aso river runs through the area. The Monti Sibillini National Park begins nearby in the mountain sector west of Comunanza, which is the main protected landscape for this part of southern Marche. The nearest ski area is Monte Piselli above Ascoli Piceno, roughly an hour by road, with larger lifts on the Sibillini side farther away and not part of the immediate setting. Ascoli Piceno is the nearest city of size, with a substantial historic centre and services; Amandola is the nearest small mountain town toward the park. This area is known for the transition from the cultivated foothills of southern Marche to the limestone massifs of the Sibillini.
