The Sibillini Mountains are inland to the west, but outside the immediate 15 km landscape. San Benedetto del Tronto is the nearest town of size, with a port, seafront and full daily services. Ascoli Piceno is the main historic city inland, known for its travertine centre and Piazza del Popolo, but it is beyond the immediate local radius. Monteprandone is known as the birthplace of San Giacomo della Marca, and its older centre stands on a ridge above the coastal plain.
