The Belbo and Bormida valleys are the main river valleys in this part of southern Asti and western Alessandria. This is wine country known for Barbera d'Asti, Moscato and other Monferrato and Langhe-Roero-Monferrato denominations. Nizza Monferrato is the nearest town of size, with everyday services and a substantial historic centre. Canelli is also close, known for wine cellars and sparkling-wine production.
