The cluster is in the hills of Irpinia on the eastern side of Campania, with cultivated ridges, wooded patches and broad views over the inland Apennine country. The nearest named mountain landscape is the southern Apennines around the Daunian-Irpinian watershed, rather than a single dominant massif immediately at hand. The Ufita valley lies nearby and shapes the local road landscape with grain fields and hilltop settlements. Ariano Irpino is the nearest town of size and has a full set of everyday services, a historic centre on the ridge, and the Romanesque cathedral. The wider area is known for inland Campanian hill agriculture, especially cereals, olive groves and caciocavallo podolico production in the broader Irpinia-Daunia border country.
