Rustico in Sant'Angelo dei Lombardi

The area sits in the Irpinia Apennines, with ridged inland mountains and farmed valleys around the upper Ofanto basin. The Ofanto river rises nearby and shapes the wider valley system in this part of eastern Avellino province. The Monti Picentini Regional Park lies to the west, but the immediate landscape around Sant'Angelo dei Lombardi is mainly upland agricultural country and small mountain centres rather than a protected showpiece. Laceno, with the nearest ski lifts, is around 30–40 minutes by road. The nearest town of some size is Avellino, which provides the main range of services and transport for the province. The area is known for Irpinia mountain farming and for wines from the wider inland Avellino area, including Taurasi and Aglianico zones farther west and north-west.
