Alta Murgia National Park lies immediately to the southwest, with open steppe-like upland, sinkholes and rocky pasture typical of the inland Murge. The Adriatic coast is reached at the Gulf of Manfredonia side near the Bari province shore, with beaches around Bisceglie, Trani and Barletta outside the immediate inland landscape. Ruvo di Puglia itself is the nearest town of size, with a substantial historic centre and the Romanesque Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta. Castel del Monte, a UNESCO site, is in the wider Alta Murgia area but beyond the immediate radius, so it is more a day-to-day excursion than part of the lived-in landscape. The area is known for olive oil, vineyards and the karst uplands of the Murge.
