The Piave runs through Cadore nearby, and Lake Centro Cadore lies a few kilometres west. Part of the area falls within the Dolomiti Bellunesi National Park to the south-west, while the Dolomiti d'Ampezzo park area begins farther north around Cortina. Skiing is part of daily geography here: the nearest lifts are at Auronzo-Monte Agudo and San Vito di Cadore, both roughly 20–30 minutes by road, with Cortina d'Ampezzo farther on. Pieve di Cadore is the nearest larger centre and has the basic services of upper Cadore; Belluno is the provincial capital farther down the valley. Cadore is known for alpine landscapes, timber and eyewear manufacturing, and for Titian at nearby Pieve di Cadore. The Dolomites are a UNESCO World Heritage site.
