The Piave and the Ardo meet at Belluno, and the town sits on a ridge above the Piave valley. Nevegal on Monte Faverghera is the nearest ski area, reached in about 25 minutes by road, with the larger Dolomite resorts of Alpago, Zoldo and Falcade farther away and not part of the immediate landscape score. Belluno is the main town of this section of the valley and has full services, a historic centre, and rail and road links into the Cadore and Agordo valleys. The area is known for its position at the entrance to the Dolomite valleys and for views toward the Schiara and Serva groups.
