The Aterno River runs through this stretch of valley. The Sirente Velino Regional Park begins nearby and covers much of the mountain area above the valley. The nearest ski area is Campo Felice, roughly an hour by road, which is outside the immediate landscape. L’Aquila is the nearest city of size, with full services, a university and major monuments, but it is beyond the 15 km radius. This part of inland Abruzzo is known for stone hill villages, transhumance country and access into the Apennine uplands.
