The former Lake Fucino basin is the main landscape feature here, now a large agricultural plain created by drainage works. The edge of the Parco Naturale Regionale Sirente-Velino lies within this radius to the north and northeast. Ovindoli and Campo Felice are the nearest ski areas, reached by mountain road in about 35 to 50 minutes depending on the lift base. Avezzano itself is the main town of size in the area, with rail links, shops, services and a modern town centre rebuilt after the 1915 earthquake. The wider Marsica area is known for Fucino agriculture, especially potatoes and other vegetables from the plain.
