The Basento River runs nearby toward the coast. Within about 15 km the main landscape feature is the badlands terrain of the calanchi around Pisticci and the inland edge of the Metaponto plain. Pisticci itself is the nearest town of size, with a large historic centre stretched along the ridge and the white-painted Dirupo quarter formed after landslides. The area is known for agriculture, especially cereals, olive groves and fruit-growing toward the plain.
