The Parco Nazionale dell'Appennino Tosco-Emiliano lies to the south, with the main protected high-ground scenery farther up the province rather than at the doorstep. The nearest substantial town is Parma, which provides the full set of city services and rail connections. This area is known for hill farming and for products tied to the Parma hinterland, including Parmigiano Reggiano.
