The Pescara River runs to the north of Pianella, and the foothill mass of the Maiella is visible farther inland but not within the immediate 15 km landscape. Chieti and Pescara are the nearest larger centres, with full services, rail links, hospitals and retail areas. This part of Abruzzo is known for olive oil and wine production.
