The cluster is on the Gioia Tauro plain at the foot of the Aspromonte, with the Tyrrhenian coast immediately beside it and views across the Strait area toward Sicily on clear days. The Petrace river reaches the sea just north of town. Parco Nazionale dell’Aspromonte lies inland, with the first mountain roads and forested slopes beginning within the short inland drive, though the main protected high ground is farther up. Gioia Tauro is a working port town and the largest nearby centre, with rail links, services and one of the main container ports in Italy. The wider plain is known for citrus groves and olive cultivation.
