Much of the surrounding territory falls in the Parco Naturale Regionale dell'Antola, on the border with Liguria, with wooded ridges and pasture around Monte Antola. The nearest ski area is Pian del Poggio above the Staffora valley, roughly an hour's drive depending on the road. The nearest larger town for everyday services is Novi Ligure; Tortona is another service centre for hospitals, rail links and larger retail. This part of the Apennines is known for summer river bathing spots, chestnut woods, hiking and small stone villages scattered in narrow valleys.
