Location score 88/100The cluster is in the upper Valchiavenna in the Lepontine Alps, close to the watershed at Passo dello Spluga. The Liro valley, alpine pastures and conifer slopes are immediate, with higher rocky ridges around Madesimo and Montespluga inside the 15 km area. Lake Montespluga lies just above the village. Much of the surrounding high ground falls within the Parco delle Alpi Lepontine on the Swiss side and the wider protected alpine border landscape continues around the pass. Ski lifts leave directly from Madesimo, with the local ski area on the slopes above the village and around Motta. Chiavenna is the nearest larger town down the valley, with full services and a substantial historic centre. The area is known for high alpine scenery, winter sports and the Spluga pass route toward Switzerland.
