Val Grande National Park begins immediately to the east, and the western side faces the lower Lepontine Alps above the Ossola. The nearest larger town is Domodossola, which has rail links, services and a substantial historic centre. The area is known as the gateway to Val Grande and for access into the Ossola valleys toward the Simplon and the upper Toce basin.
