The former Lake Fucino area defines the landscape around the town, with the basin drained and now used for intensive agriculture. The Sirente-Velino Regional Natural Park lies just to the north and north-east, and the Velino massif is the main mountain presence in the wider immediate area. The nearest ski lifts are at Ovindoli on Monte Magnola, roughly 20–25 minutes by road.
