The Tyrrhenian Sea is at Finale di Pollina, and the coast here is a short stretch of shore between the headlands west of Cefalù and the Tusa side. The Parco delle Madonie begins a few kilometres inland and covers much of the mountain hinterland. The nearest ski lifts are at Piano Battaglia in the Madonie, roughly an hour’s drive depending on the route. Cefalù is the nearest town of size; it has a substantial historic centre, services and rail connections. Cefalù is on the UNESCO list as part of Arab-Norman Palermo and the Cathedral Churches of Cefalù and Monreale. The area is known for the meeting of mountain terrain and the north Sicilian coast, with hill villages, olive groves and access into the Madonie interior.
