The Monti Sibillini are the main mountain group to the northeast, and the Monti Sibillini National Park begins within this part of the upper Valnerina around Norcia and the Castelluccio side. The nearest ski area is Forca Canapine on the Sibillini, roughly an hour by road in normal conditions. Spoleto is the nearest town of size, with a substantial historic centre, services, rail connections and the Rocca Albornoziana. The wider Valnerina is known for woodland, river gorges, black truffle and cured meats, with rafting and outdoor sports on the Nera further down the valley.
