The mouth of the Simeto valley and the flat Catania plain lie to the north. Siracusa is the nearest major historic city, with the archaeological park and the old island centre of Ortigia. Mount Etna is visible in the wider area and the main access points on the south side are around 1 to 1.5 hours by road, but it is outside the 15 km landscape. This stretch of coast is also known for the heavy industrial and port zone between Augusta, Priolo and Melilli.
