The cluster is in the built-up area of Siracusa, so the resident setting is urban streets rather than open countryside. The Ionian coast is nearby, with the shoreline of Siracusa and the Plemmirio marine area south of the city. The River Ciane and the saline area at the mouth of the Anapo lie just south of the city, protected in the Riserva Naturale Orientata Fiume Ciane e Saline di Siracusa. Ortigia, the historic island core of Siracusa, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of Syracuse and the Rocky Necropolis of Pantalica. The city itself has major archaeological remains including the Greek theatre and the Neapolis archaeological area, and it is known for its Greek and baroque heritage.
