Sacra di San Michele stands on Monte Pirchiriano a few kilometres away and is one of the main historic landmarks of this part of Piemonte. Avigliana, the nearest larger town, has services, a rail connection, and the Lakes of Avigliana just to the east. The valley is known for its Alpine setting, old abbeys and forts, and as the main route from Turin toward the Mont Cenis and Fréjus passes.
