The area sits at the entrance to the Val Sangone, with the western Alpine foothills immediately around it and the lower Susa Valley nearby. The Sangone stream runs through the valley. The Orsiera-Rocciavrè Regional Natural Park is nearby on the ridge system above the valley. The nearest ski lifts are the small lifts of the Val Sangone and Val di Susa side, while the larger Milky Way ski areas are farther west and do not sit within the immediate landscape. Giaveno is the main town locally, with a full set of everyday services and a historic centre; Avigliana and the western edge of the Turin plain are also close for daily needs. The area is known for chestnut woods and for being one of the settled gateways from the Turin side into the Alpine valleys.
