The Val Troncea Natural Park is at Pragelato and protects a side valley with alpine pastures, larch woods and high peaks. The nearest ski lifts are those of Pragelato and the Via Lattea system around Sestriere, a short drive up the valley. The nearest town of size is Pinerolo, which has the main services; Sestriere is the nearest major ski resort. Pragelato was one of the venues of the 2006 Turin Winter Olympics. The area is known for alpine winter sports and summer hiking.
