The Bormida river runs near Alessandria and the Tanaro plain is close by. Alessandria is the nearest town of size, with a full set of services, a rail junction and the citadel fortress. To the south the landscape rises toward the Ovadese and the first Ligurian Apennine hills, but the stronger mountain scenery is outside the immediate 15 km radius. This part of the province is known mainly for mixed agriculture and for being a transition zone between the plain and the Monferrato hills.
