The Dora Riparia runs down the valley floor near Cesana Torinese. The area is part of the Via Lattea ski domain; the nearest lifts are at Sansicario, Cesana and Claviere, all a short drive away, with extensive skiing on both the Italian and French sides of the border. Sestriere is the nearest resort town of size in the immediate area, and Oulx lower in the valley is the main service centre with shops, rail access and road links. This part of the valley is known for alpine skiing and for the old military roads and fortifications on the border ridges.
