Fenestrelle and the upper valley are within the local mountain area, and the valley continues up toward the Via Lattea ski domain; the nearest lifts are around Pragelato and Sestriere, roughly 35–50 minutes by road depending on the access point. Pinerolo is the nearest larger town, with rail links, shops, services and a substantial historic centre. This part of the valley is known for Alpine valley settlements, woodland and pasture slopes, and for the road up to the Fenestrelle fortress area in the upper Val Chisone.
