The cluster is on the Gulf of Gaeta on the Tyrrhenian coast, with Monte Orlando and the headlands of the Riviera di Ulisse immediately around the town. Monte Orlando Regional Park is in Gaeta and includes the promontory, coastal Mediterranean scrub and limestone cliffs above the sea. The long beaches of Serapo and the coast toward Vindicio are part of the local shoreline. Gaeta has a substantial historic center split between the medieval quarter and the lower town, a fishing and port function, and the Angevin-Aragonese castle on the headland. The area is known for its coastal setting, military and maritime history, and the olive cultivar from the Gaeta area. Sperlonga, within the same coastal stretch, is one of I Borghi più belli d'Italia, and the Riviera di Ulisse coast is one of the named landscapes of southern Lazio.
