The plain is drained by channels and wetlands linked to the coastal lakes of Lungo and San Puoto near Sperlonga. The Monti Ausoni e Lago di Fondi Regional Park covers the limestone ridges and the lake and wetland system beside the town. Terracina is the nearest larger centre, with full services and rail access on the coastal corridor; Formia and Gaeta are also close for shopping, hospitals and ferries. Sperlonga, on the coast just west of Fondi, is one of I Borghi più belli d'Italia. The area is known for the Piana di Fondi, intensive fruit and vegetable farming, and the combination of limestone mountains behind a reclaimed coastal plain.
