The Liri-Garigliano river system is farther inland; the nearest coast is the Gulf of Gaeta with beaches between Itri, Sperlonga and Gaeta. Part of the Monti Aurunci Regional Park lies in this area. The nearest larger town is Formia, which has a port, rail connections and the main services for the coast. Sperlonga, within the same coastal stretch, has a historic center and Blue Flag beach status. The area is known for Itri olives and olive oil, and for the old route between Rome and Naples that passes through the hills here.
