The cluster lies on the Campidano plain close to the Gulf of Oristano and the Tirso river basin. The coast at Torre Grande and the wetlands of the Stagno di Cabras and Stagno di Santa Giusta are within this radius, with long sandy shores at Marina di Torregrande and the Sinis coast farther west. The marine and archaeological landscape of the Sinis peninsula and the Area Marina Protetta Penisola del Sinis - Isola di Mal di Ventre begin just beyond the urban area, and the Phoenician-Roman site of Tharros is nearby on the peninsula. Oristano is the nearest town of size and has the full services of a provincial capital, a preserved historic centre, and the annual Sartiglia tradition. The area is known for lagoons, fishing and bottarga around Cabras, and for flat agricultural land opening to the west coast.
