The cluster sits in the built-up area of Padova, so the lived setting is the central Veneto plain rather than open countryside. The Bacchiglione runs through the city and the Brenta system is close by in the wider urban plain. The nearest substantial landscape feature is the Euganean Hills to the southwest, a volcanic hill group with the Parco Regionale dei Colli Euganei, but they are outside the immediate urban area. Padova itself is a major provincial capital with a large historic centre, the Basilica of Saint Anthony, the Palazzo della Ragione, and Giotto’s Scrovegni Chapel, part of the UNESCO listing of the fourteenth-century fresco cycles of Padua.
