This is in the southern Veneto plain between the lower Bacchiglione and Adige river country, with flat agricultural land, drainage canals and scattered villages. The nearest town of size is Monselice, which has a walled hilltop castle complex and a substantial historic centre. To the north-west, within about 15 km, the Colli Euganei rise out of the plain as isolated volcanic hills, protected as the Parco Regionale dei Colli Euganei; the area is known for vineyards, olive groves and spa towns around Abano and Montegrotto farther north.
