The Enza river is the main natural feature nearby, and the landscape within reach is mixed farmland, wooded slopes and low Apennine foothills rather than high mountains. The nearest larger town is Parma, which has a full set of services, rail connections, a major Romanesque cathedral and baptistery, and a historic centre of regional importance.
