The upper Parma valley and the Parma stream shape this area, and the slopes are mostly forested with scattered pasture and small hamlets. A large part of the surrounding territory falls within the Parco Nazionale dell’Appennino Tosco-Emiliano, and the Lagdei area and the glacial Lago Santo Parmense are within this mountain zone. The nearest ski area is Prato Spilla, reached by mountain road in roughly half an hour from Corniglio. The nearest town of size is Parma, which provides the main rail connections, services and a full historic city.
