The area is in the Parma Apennines, with wooded ridges, pasture and small valleys. The Enza valley is nearby, and the Tuscan-Emilian Apennine National Park lies to the south within this part of the province. The nearest skiing is the Schia area on Monte Caio, roughly a 30-minute drive, with larger lifts farther south around Cerreto Laghi. Parma is the nearest city of size, with full services, rail connections and major historic monuments. This part of the Apennines is known for hill agriculture and for Parmigiano Reggiano production.
