The cluster is in the Parma Apennines, with the Tuscan-Emilian Apennine ridge close by. The upper Parma valley and the Parma stream are the main natural axis of the area. Much of the surrounding high ground falls within the Parco Nazionale dell’Appennino Tosco-Emiliano and the Parco dei Cento Laghi lies in this part of the province, with mountain terrain, woods and small glacial lakes on the ridge side. The nearest ski area is Pratospilla, a short drive from Corniglio. Corniglio itself is the main small centre in the immediate area, while Parma is the nearest city of size for full services. The area is known for mountain pastures, forests, hiking and the highland edge of Parmigiano Reggiano production.
